All the fancy things

You guys, I think buying that one hat has started something serious. I’ve been getting up every morning thinking “Okay, what should I wear on my head with my outfit?” I have such a plethora of hats, scarves, and flower crowns now that it really isn’t that hard to pick something that goes well, and I LOVE it.

As you can see, it definitely pushes my style more towards retro/vintage, which is something I’ve never been able to resist.

I do have to admit that this outfit is one of my more frivolous ones, that I didn’t actually wear anywhere (no car) and the only way anyone saw it was via the internet, but sometimes a girl just has to wear all of her fanciest things. If I had gone out in public, I probably would have nixed the fur wrap.

It’s funny how just a small detail can make you rethink your style; this week I have realized that I feel more comfortable in the more retro/vintage styles than I do in more modern ones. My preferred style is somewhere between the 40’s and 60’s, with occasional forays into the 70’s and 80’s. Anywhere more modern than that, and I start to get bored or lost with styling.

This is the kind of outfit that, as a pregnant woman, I have been avoiding. Not because I hate full skirts or vintage looks (you all know I love vintage to death), but because it’s all fun and games from the front, and then from the side BAM I swallowed a whale.

But I gave myself a pep talk and wore it anyway. Because seriously: everyone knows I am pregnant. It might look like I’m hiding an extra tire in there, but nobody’s going to look at me and assume it’s fat. Right?

Although my ever-tactful and loving husband might make a snarky comment or two, but he does that. And then I threaten never to make him cookies again.

Can you believe how long my hair is getting? I feel like it wasn’t that long ago that I had a pixie cut, and now it’s  reaching past my shoulder blades (when it’s not curled.) I cannot wait for waist-length status… although in retrospect I might regret super long hair while I have a baby who can grab things. So you can look forward to lots of updo’s (probably lazy ones) in the future.

I said the other day that I’d only worn 2 of my hats in public, and that was a total lie. I forgot that I wore this once to church. From now on, though, I’ll be wearing it to… everywhere. It’s this gorgeous velvet and satin hat with such beautiful bow detail, and needs no pins at all to keep it on. Those kind are my favorite! I never have to worry if they’ve fallen off or gone askew.10

And guys, yes, this is real fur. I found it at Goodwill for $14, and it’s… I think it’s badger fur. I’d never buy new fur, but if it’s vintage why let it go to waste? Someday I’ll wear this in public… for a fancy date, maybe!11

I am so excited, because last night we finally bought a wireless router that works! We’ve had a bit of an odd journey with internet in general: we didn’t even have internet for the first 5 months of being married. (Someone asked me how we survived. I… we watched a lot of movies? I dunno, we get along? Haha!) But then when we bought our first wireless router, we both sort of spaced and returned it because we thought it wouldn’t work (it would have.) Then we decided maybe it would make more sense to get a router/modem combo, so we went and found one that was both, brought it home, and realized that it didn’t have the screw-in component for the wall-to-modem internet cable. So we returned that one.

And THEN we bought a router that lasted, I kid you not, five hours. And it died. Just without reason. Completely dead.

So for a while we gave up, because I was able to plug into the internet anyway, and it was just not important. Until I started working from home, and then my back started to kill me for sitting on the antique wooden desk chair we have, and y’know. Necessity.

So we finally have wireless internet, and it WORKS.

Vintage hat and fur | Kohl’s lace peplum shirt | Thrifted belt, heels, and skirt | Gift earrings

I’m so happy. And I admit, I will totally work from bed some days because I’m pregnant and sometimes it’s too hard to get up right away.

But I’m glad that I’m no longer trapped upstairs whenever I want internet– our bedroom has no windows, and I hate that!

Wireless internet is the best.

Last night, I met five of my nieces and nephews for the first time; it was so great! I love being in a house full of people, and right now my in-laws have lots of people around. So fun.

I hope you all have a good Wednesday! I might be off to finally get some maternity clothes that I need, and a pair of waterproof boots. If I can find some.

I have to say I very much enjoy seeing how creative you are while pregnant. Dressing a body growing and changing every day is a difficult challenge that most (myself included) just don’t bother too much with… Just, wow… And, no, you definitely don’t look fat… just pregnant 🙂 Although I always dreaded those side views as well unless I used my hands to better define the bump 😉

IT definitely is a challenge, but I think that’s why I have so much fun. And I really don’t think I look fat, it’s just not a flattering look to wear really full skirts! Hehe. Thank you!

You are by far the most stylish and beautiful pregnant lady I’ve ever seen! I seriously love that you look so classy too. OH MY GOD YOU DID NOT SWALLOW A WHALE UNLESS YOU’RE NAMING THE BABY MOBY DICK. You have a baby human being growing inside of you!! It has to have room to grow somewhere!! Now as for me.. I don’t have an excuse ;P

HAHAHA! Oh my goodness you made me laugh so much! I don’t actually feel like I swallowed a whale, it’s just my first impression of any really full skirts on me. Seriously it’s not flattering, and that’s totally okay! Doesn’t hurt my confidence at all. 😀 You’re really sweet! And I think you look amazing.

Seriously with every post I am more and more amazed at how chic and glamourous you are, ESPECIALLY as a pregnant lady. I think it must be so easy to become lazy with styling when pregnant (I know that’s how it would be for me haha) but your posts are honestly my favorites as far as fashion blogging goes. I have so much respect for you! I don’t want this to come off as “your outfits look great…as a pregnant lady,” I just mean the fact that you’re pregnant makes your styling abilities that much more impressive :] LOVE this outfit so much, the belt is perfect and I think the whole outfit i flattering. And congrats on your hair growth! Haha nothing is a better feeling :]

Marla you are so sweet! I do definitely get lazy a lot (this is why I don’t post daily outfits, ha!) but I’ve been trying more lately to get dressed even if I don’t have to go anywhere. It just makes my day better!

Hahaha “I don’t know, we like each other?”- totally made me lol. And THAT HAT. You should totally wear it out more often, it’s absolutely gorgeous! Haha and I don’t think you like whale-like at all in this outfit. You can totally tell you’re pregnant so no harm no foul 😉 And I love this fancy pants outfit- and I do the same sometimes. I just dress up all pretty when I know for a fact I won’t be leaving the apartment all day. It’s mostly just for me 😉

Well, it’s true! Hehehe. Surprisingly we didn’t get tired of each other without any internet to distract us! 😀 Hehe.
Isn’t it amazing? I NEED to go back to the antique store and buy five more hats. Totally addicted.

I’m only sad (as at the moment I don’t have the internet) that my Hairy one and I can’t sit together for playing games! We’re not tired of each other at all, it’s just frustrating as we pay for it 🙁 I totally get what you mean about the side view – that is one impressive bump! You still look lovely though, and I’m envious of the long long hair 🙂

Oh gosh, you look so pretty! This vintage style suits you SO well (and you’re crazy, your belly even looks cute in this). I can’t wait to see more outfits like this from you. And I totally get just wanting to dress up for fun with nowhere to go. Also, hooray for internet!
