The Vintage Belle

This post is sorely late in coming to you. Quite a while ago, my lovely friend Nicole messaged me to ask if I’d like her to make me a hat based on Beauty and the Beast. The new movie was just about to be released, and she was hoping I’d like to wear it to the theater when I saw the movie. Of course I said yes; what could be better than a vintage-inspired AND Beauty-and-the-Beast inspired hat?

But when it arrived, I knew I wanted to do something a little more special than the Belle-esque dress I had gotten off Amazon a while ago. I really wanted to capture the spirit of Belle while also paying homage to my favorite clothing era. So I waited, and searched, and then this dress was posted in a buy-sell-trade group I am part of, and I I knew that was it. Not only is this dress like a beautiful subtle homage to Beauty and the Beast, it’s also a true 1950’s dress, and it has pockets. It is literally everything my dreams are made of!

I knew that the hat would go perfectly with the dress, and I was so right! I do struggle a bit to style this type of hat; I have a short forehead and I feel like small hats somehow emphasize that. I like to create height and draw the eye upward either with full swoops, or wide-brimmed hats. So, it took me a while to get this just right. But I’m so glad I waited!Vintage Belle | eyreeffect.comVintage Belle | eyreeffect.com

The hat itself is made of a sturdy, beautiful yellow material and adorned with lovely red beads and a gorgeous satin rose. I love the asymmetric veil she decided to put on, and she even provides alligator clips so it stays firmly in place!

I am sad that I wasn’t able to get this post up early enough to correspond with viewing Beauty and the Beast, but I do think it was well worth the wait.

This is not the only style of hat Nicole makes; definitely follow her on Facebook, Instagram, and Etsy to see all of her wonderful pop-culture inspired hats! She’s so creative and talented, and I love seeing what she comes up with!

And if you’re wondering whether I’m  back from my little break, the answer is… we’ll see. I am currently writing up a STORM and sharing my novel on Fiction Press, so you can check that out in the meantime. But, while I am starting to have the energy to get posting again, I don’t have plans to post again regularly for at least another week, possibly two.

If you don’t follow me on Instagram, you can see a bit more behind my reasons for taking a break in this post here. And meanwhile, thank you so much for all of your support and love! It’s meant the world to me opening up and hearing all of your stories. Vintage Belle | eyreeffect.comVintage Belle | eyreeffect.comVintage Belle | eyreeffect.com
