Yesterday, we went up to Green Mountain to hike to the river. We didn’t get a lot of pictures, but I did get to shoot a little video of our adventure. Deciding what to wear was easy; this blue dress basically feels like a tee, and my colorful tennis shoes were a must. Maybe it’s a little funny to be wearing a dress on a hike, but hey: I would have been way more uncomfortable in jeans! And probably a bit too warm, too.
Asa absolutely loved the river. He wanted to “take a bath” in every little stream leading up to the river, and then was obsessed with throwing rocks into the water. We traversed the bridge to toss rocks down I don’t even know how many times.
Green Mountain is a really great hike for me; I’m working on building muscle and stamina, but I’m still not too fit on that scale so a more leisurely hike is right up my alley! You don’t gain a lot of altitude on this hike, and a lot of it is really easy walking. But there are always little hills and trails you can take off the main path, and add to the adventure of it. Of course, having the baby and the toddler, we didn’t take any of the crazier trails.
But, it was still fun. Definitely worth visiting if you live in the area!
I have been wanting to start doing videos for a while, on YouTube. But I wasn’t quite sure what about; I’ve been asked to do tutorials, writing videos, fashion videos, etc… but none of it really stuck with me.
Today, I decided to take some video of Asa doing a simple, mundane thing… and realized this is what I was looking for. So if you’re itching to see more of my life behind the outfits, subscribe on YouTube! I will likely share the videos here as well, but on a more sporadic basis.
And, I liked doing that one so much, I may or may not have made two more. One isn’t up yet, but I felt Evie needed a fair chance at some video exposure too, so she got her own little video:
I am really excited to finally have found a way that feels right to me for sharing more of motherhood. Photos work, yes, but I am not sure how into lifestyle photography I am at the moment. Video, though? I love it. I love the ability it gives me to capture my kids as more than just still life. I will probably still upload the occasional tutorial, the makeup through the ages videos, and maybe vlogs, but I am really obsessed with taking lifestyle video right now.
So, I’ll be back tomorrow with an outfit, but for now… enjoy!
This pretty girl is two months old today, and I can’t believe it! She’s starting to become a very smiley baby; as soon as she wakes up, she grins at whomever speaks first, and often even smiles at the lights, or the pictures, or whatever else catches her fancy. When she’s trying to fall asleep, she tries to suck her thumb (but often ends up poking her fingers up her nose instead. #babieshavenocoordination), and it’s the only time she really fusses other than being hungry or wet. She is just beginning to find her voice, which means lots of baby cooing (and mama cooing back. Ha!) while she’s awake, and lots of little giggles while she’s asleep. I can’t wait for her to start laughing when she’s awake!
She’s gained 2lbs and 8 ounces in the last month, which I’m pretty sure have gone straight to her cheeks. We are so in love with her!
Can you feel my love through the camera? Because it is there, this fierce love, for the darkness of your lashes and the dimples in your cheeks. I need to capture every moment of you, my darling child; the way your fingers move and explore; the shine in your eyes as you look at me; the top of your head and its soft hair; the roundness of your face with its baby cheeks; the pucker of your lips as you think.
You are beautiful. I would stay in this moment forever, mundane as it is with grapes and hotdogs and cheese; you, testing each piece of food with your fingers before eagerly gobbling it up. You, catching my eye and making a face to hear me laugh. You, smiling because you love me and I love you even more.
Change is coming and I cannot even fathom how much this love will grow, but for now it wells up so quickly I cannot stop the tears in my eyes as I watch you, adore you, memorize you. I will never stop being your mother; I will never stop loving you so fiercely that sometimes it hurts.
You are mine. And you are beautiful.
(No baby yet.)
