I only like bugs when they’re turquoise and big enough to sit on.

Don’t forget, I’m changing my url on Friday. Everything stays here, but you’ll have to re-bookmark me, or type in eccentricowl.wordpress.com, as I can’t afford to buy the automatic redirect package.

 Details: Cardigan($5), Target; Shirt($6), New York&Co.; Skirt ($12.97), thrifted (Forever 21); Shoes ($10), Walmart;
Approximate outfit cost: $33.97

I don’t have much to say today. My mom and I went to the fabric store, and I got a beautiful pattern… but every single fabric I wanted to use didn’t have enough. I suck at picking out good fabrics.

And then we went to my favorite restaurant and ate this:

I love gyros. They are without a doubt my favorite food.Ever.

Someone asked me if I was Greek once. I was standing at a Gyro stand at the fair. Of course, I was much darker then. But still. I think it’s funny, I tend to be a chameleon, and people never know where I’m from.

So! One of the things I bought at that garage sale a few days ago… was Jane Eyre. I already have one edition of the book, but when I found this one I HAD to buy it. It was only fifty cents, and it’s the same publisher, year, and illustrator of my copy of Wuthering Heights. It’s beautiful.

Here’s the front page:

And the first chapter:

And one of the many amazing illustrations:

I am so in love with this edition. The edition my best friend got me was amazing, but this…oh.I love it. It matches my Wuthering Heights, it’s got illustrations, it’s antique, it’s in excellent condition… it’s gorgeous.

Unfortunately, unlike my Wuthering Heights, the Jane Eyre cover isn’t very spectacular.

And now I have two editions of my favorite book. Wait! Three. One is a Young Reader’s Digest condensed version, but still. I’m so very happy.

(More pictures of my Wuthering Heights book here, here, and here)

I hope you are all having a beautiful Thursday!

Other ways I’ve worn this cardigan:

30 for 30

Allrighty! So tomorrow I start my 30 for 30 challenge. I have been anticipating this for a WEEK, and I’ve been so very tempted to do 2 challenges at once, but… I restrained myself. And since today ends the Alphabet of Color challenge, tomorrow begins the 30 for 30! I’ve quit adjusting my list of clothes, and I  now have no choice but to stick to the items listed below. I’m excited to begin!

I’ve listed where I bought things and the approximate price– when I could remember it–, so you can see how much I love Target and thrift stores… and just how cheap I really am. 😉

Did you tally up those prices? Giving about $50 for the items I couldn’t remember the price of, this entire wardrobe cost me about $240. You know that show “The Look For Less?” Well, usually the participants bring about $150 and buy a “look” composed of a dress, jacket shoes, and jewelry, for…$150. Which, apparently, is “less.” So they get about 5 items for more than half of what I paid for 30. I bet you that I could do the look for less with $50. And possibly have money left over.

If I had a spending budget of just $100 a month, I’d  have a huge wardrobe. *sigh* I wish…

Yes. I’m cheap. The last thing I bought at full price was that silver floral necklace, and to me, paying $15 for a necklace is steep. And the last clearance item I bought for more than $15 was those snakeskin heels– which,by the way, I was rather irritated because I went back a week later and there was one pair left in my size for $7. If only I had waited! But I think that they were worth the extra dollars.

So yes. I rarely buy anything for more than $10. But we’ll call me thrifty, so I don’t sound like a miserable old penny-pinching miser. 😉

Here is everything all together:

I have to admit that I am really, really dubious about the jeans. But I’ll try to style them at least once during the challenge.

And as I go, I’ll put together each item of clothing along with its accessories in a picture and tally up the total price so that you can see which items I’m wearing, where I got them, and how much the outfit cost me. Sound good? Yes? Good.

So! Tomorrow, it begins. Wish me luck!

P.S. A poll:

These are a few of my favorite things

There was a really lovely breeze yesterday, so I decided to haul some of my favorite wardrobe pieces and accessories outside to take some pictures and share with you a few of my favorite things.

Found at an antique store for $12. I’m afraid to wear it. It’s really delicate.

Found at Goodwill for like… $7. I never wear this, either. It’s good for photoshoots, though.

Given to me by my bride-friend for being in her wedding. Authentic 1940’s cocktail dress. I looove it. I have yet to wear it anywhere.

Goodwill. $15.

Local thrift store. $5… or maybe, maybe $6.

This was… seven or eight dollars? Goodwill… again.

Vintage aprons! All around $4 at an antique store. I’m working up the courage to wear them as accessories… it’s just… they’re so vintage and pretty and I know I will mess them up if I wear them around… anywhere.

Both from a local antique/vintage/thrift store. Both $5. I plan to buy a lot of vintage hats from there.

I luuurve mah owl. Target. $7.

This belonged to my grandma, on whose birthday I was born. I really want to get it restored. Even broken, it’s beautiful.

Maid of honor ring! I think it was around $3.50 at Icing

This was given to me by my other grandma. It’s by a brand at Target called @tract, who have so far produced my favorite pieces of jewelry.  (It’s a reversible pendant, in case you didn’t know. That’s just one necklace.)

Once again by @tract at Target. I can’t remember what it cost. But I rather like my lil hidden-lucky-charm-acorn necklace.

My cockeyed owl. @tract again. Can’t remember the cost. Somewhere around $8?

NOT @tract. 😀 I like my scarab beetle. I got him for three dollars at a store in the mall whose name I cannot remember. But I love that store. They have awesome paper-star lanterns.

I don’t remember where I got this. But I love it to death, and do not have enough occasions to wear it. Also, the camera doesn’t like to focus on shiny things, dang it.

A case of the camera not focusing and me not realizing it. Oh well. These are one-of-a-kind, hand-made locally, and they were given to me by my bride friend- the one who gave me the black dress- for being in her wedding. The same person that made these made her engagement ring. Which is gorgeous.

I wore these for aforementioned bride-friend’s wedding. They’re heavy. But I love them.

Is it just me, or is this not the coolest picture ever? It’s probably just me. Once again, these are of the brand @tract, from Target… for… I’m going to guess $5.  I wear them more than any other of my earrings except for these ones:

My beloved owlies. @tract again. I can’t remember how much.

Last but not least, my cat earrings. I really love them. They’re funky and fun and whimsical and humorous… and cats… so… y’know. They were a gift to me from my best friend, who didn’t want them and basically said “Take them, or I’m throwing them away.” So thoughtful of her. 😀

So the light faded before I could photograph my favorite shoes, and I couldn’t find my owl ring. I suppose that will all have to wait for another fashion post. 😉

I hope you like my favorite things as much as I do! Just… not enough to steal them…

My general vacation packing routine usually consists of throwing anything and everything that catches my eye into my suitcase the night before I leave. Usually, I haven’t worked out whether anything goes together, I just grab my favorites and the basics and shove them in.

But because I’ve been reading WhatIWore and seeing all of her wonderful outfit concoctions, I made a rule. Nothing goes in my suitcase- aside from my staple dresses- that cannot make at least two outfits, preferably three. No random grabbing.

My dresses, I wear anywhere and everywhere. I know they’re versatile and I’ll wear them a lot since the weather will be hot, so they’re exempt from the three-outfit rule.

And I realized that most of my outfits will either be a dress, or something consisting of mainly blue and white. I don’t have much variety in my skirts.

But my two favorite separates- the flowered skirt and my Breton stripes top- happen to be my most versatile pieces of clothing, and they also go together.

And I really don’t have an underlying color theme in my closet. I’m sort of a rainbow. Which would be why most of my clothes aren’t so versatile.

And for my jewelry, I didn’t actually just grab everything and throw it in a box this time. Most of what I’m bringing will go with several outfits.

but there are a few pieces I am packing simply because they’re pretty. I have the “Ooh, Shiny!” syndrome when I pack jewelry. It’s always to self: “Do these actually go with your clothes?” — “Not really… but… they’re shiny!”

The clothing lineup: (It looks like a ton to me. And yes, I know. I’m bringing a lot of shoes.)

And then, of course, there’s the makeup:

And the skincare (I know, I know. Burt’s Bees addict.)

And all of this has to go in one suitcase, and still leave room for any vintage clothing I may find while I’m there. Oh dear.

From My Closet

I went shopping today; I needed to spend the $50 dollar Target gift card someone gave me for my birthday, and after watching What Not To Wear and browsing a few fashion blogs, I decided to up and go see if Target had any good shirts or accessories. I bought two dresses on my birthday, so I sort of banned myself from buying more. I have enough dresses.

And… since I very much adore the things I bought- this shirt in particular- I thought I’d do a little fashion post. I’ve always wanted to do a daily or every-other-day fashion post, but… I don’t exactly love pictures of myself right now. Maybe after I’ve started jogging. (But on the plus side, I’ve lost half an inch around my hips and waist! Because… I can’t really eat right now…) Summer fashion is coming up!

The first outfit is inspired by What I Wore’s idea for Breton Stripes Tuesday. I know, I know, it’s Wednesday. But I just read her post today. So there.

I’m not super fond of shorts,  but that’s mostly because these ones don’t fit quite right- like most shorts-, and I need to start jogging and toning my legs. Also, I’m very pale. So excuse the blinding reflection coming off of my thighs. I can’t help it.

(I know I look kind of wonky here. I was holding the jean jacket over my shoulder, and the camera snapped before I was ready. Also, there were bees. So I was about ready to run away screaming. 😉 Oh, and those funny shadows on the sides of my chin? Bruising from having my teeth pulled. No, my chin isn’t really that huge. It’s just a trick of the bruising that I’m too lazy to cover with foundation.)

I adore this necklace. It is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry- I have a thing for birds in jewelry- and I’ve been wearing it over and over and over. I love that it has the slightly worn, old-metal look, and the design is so cute and quirky. Plus, I think I got it for… three dollars? So y’know. Love.

This second way to wear the shirt, I didn’t think would work- I bought the skirt on a whim a few years ago, and it doesn’t go with much. I think the bold green just overpowers everything else, or makes it look a little too flashy. But I love it with this shirt! Although it looks better in real life than it does in the picture.

I love this necklace. It has just enough green to pull in with the skirt… but enough blue that it’ll go with pretty much anything. Turquoise jewelry is pretty versatile.

And lastly… the shoes. I adore them.

I should have painted my toenails BEFORE I took this picture, not after… but um… too lazy to retake it.  Back to the shoes! I’ve been wanting some nude/tan heels for a while, and although I’m not usually a huge fan of wedges- or straps- I love these. They’re on the gray side, which I generally prefer so that they don’t match my skin entirely, and they feel very… French. To me. (Hey, I’m like… 1/16th French! So… yeah. Woohoo!)

I can wear them with shorts, skirts, jeans, dresses, and any color of the rainbow since they’re neutral. SO glad I decided to get them, because I wasn’t too sure at first. But they are now the most versatile shoes in my closet, and the only pair of heels I have that work as a casual shoe. I love them! Did I say that? Because I do. Very much.

Then again, I just love shoes in general, and I have over ten pairs of heels to prove that. Plus flats. And tennis shoes that I should use more often.
