    Breaking the Rules

This week, I am testing out a few holiday party outfit options. And after so many of you commiserated or posted words of encouragement about yesterday’s “back fat” post, I was thinking about another part of my body that doesn’t really fit society’s standards. I didn’t write that post for people to tell me that I don’t need to Photoshop myself or that they didn’t see what I see or that I look fine; while those are nice things to hear, that wasn’t the purpose of posting about something that I saw as a flaw. The point was to say “I have back fat, but that’s okay! I am more…

    Florals and Giraffes

Well, I am officially no longer nursing Asa. It’s a weird thought; I haven’t nursed him for two days, and I haven’t suffered any aftereffects that I wondered about – engorgement being the biggest one. But we transitioned to the bottle over three months time, nursing less and bottle-feeding more out of necessity rather than choice, so I’m sure that helped tremendously. But now I have to… I don’t know, figure out who I am again. Motherhood is such a rollercoaster of fluctuating identities. You first become “the pregnant one” in your circle of friends (well, I did, being the only pregnant one in my and my husband’s circle… and……

    The Power of Modesty

So today in the parking lot at the grocery store, as I was crossing the parking lot from returning a cart, the van coming at me stopped to let me go past and, as I always do, I waved my thanks and headed straight on. But as I passed the open passenger’s side window of the van, a man’s voice called out “have a nice day!” and I glanced over to see him smiling appreciatively at me. I was wearing this outfit, minus the cardigan, with flat shoes. Just a regular girl. Oh, and glasses. And being the person that I am (aka, not rude, and not confrontational), I simply…

    May Day

I am writing this post from outside. I mean. I cannot believe the weather this week! It’s been absolutely gorgeous, and very summery even though I feel like we just started spring! And can you believe it’s May already? I feel like this year is just flying by; I think having a baby really makes life speed up. So much has already happened– baby, birthday, moving — I can’t wait to see what else comes this year! I had another set of photos I was going to share today, but then I realized what day it was and decided that May 1st should definitely be welcomed in with a flowery…

    Strange Confessions

So let me tell you a little secret. It’s one of those secrets I keep in my “things moms do to not shower” corner. It’s called “Put a Scarf on It!” Aka… I have gone like four days without showering, and I had to go out in public, so today scarves are my best friend. Because when there’s a scarf covering up my hair, nobody can see how bad it is. If it’s really bad, I put my hair up before I scarf it. But today it’s just at that line where you sort of need to shower at the roots, but the ends are actually the nice, supple, perfectly…
