Gingham and stripes and dots, oh my!

I’ve been feeling really bored with getting dressed lately. Maybe it’s the lack of a huge and varied closet since we moved, maybe it’s that everything has been controlled by ease-of-nursing, but everything I’ve been wearing has gotten plain and modern and uninspiring to me. And there have been other things going on too; little, almost unconscious things. I’ve been feeling unsure about my weight lately, and my current body shape. That post-pregnancy confidence with having my waist back has morphed into a mild awareness that my belly has gone mommy-soft (not that it was ever, ever flat) and is bigger than it used to be, and my hip-to-boob ratio…

    Settling into Style

I think I have just discovered my ultimate perfect outfit: a swingy skirt in a good pattern, a simple top (preferably button up or really stretchy, because… nursing mom, you guys…), a belt (I’m addicted to belts, you might have noticed), and a simple piece of jewelry OR a scarf. And, of course, good shoes. But that’s a given. And the proportions have to be right– I hemmed this skirt up to the knee yesterday because it was just a few inches too long for my liking, and realized this length is definitely more flattering on me. So now I have a pile of skirts and dresses waiting to be…

    Stripes

So here’s a thing you don’t know about me, which perhaps I shouldn’t be sharing because you might think it’s gross, but… uhm… I don’t wash my thrifted clothes unless they actually smell or look dirty. Most of the stuff I’ve thrifted smells like laundry detergent, and I figure… hey, if it smells clean, it probably is! Right? Anyone? Yeah. My husband thinks it’s gross and I avoid telling him I haven’t washed a thrifted shirt. Usually I get away with it. But obviously if it just smells old or has stains or feels groaty, I’ll wash it! Point being, I got this shirt and sweater from Goodwill the other…

    Polkadots and Pregnancy

So lately, people have been asking if I’m having the baby soon (as in, they think I’m almost due), and when I tell them I still have three months, everyone tries to backtrack really hard. It’s incredibly sweet of them to really not want to offend this pregnant woman by thinking I look… well… really pregnant, but here’s the thing: dude, I’m pregnant. I carry the kid ALL in the belly, so I know it sticks out. And you know what? That’s totally and completely okay. In fact, I love it. I love looking really pregnant. First of all, I know I don’t look fat, so let’s not even worry…

    Oh Baby…

Well, we know what the baby is! If you’re an Instagrammer, you already know the gender since I’m terrible at keeping secrets and I’ve already revealed it there. But if you’re not, then surprise! The tally is: 27 for a Boy, 26 for a Girl, so far as I can count via Facebook, blog, and Instagram (before I revealed it). Just within the family, the vote was 14 for a boy and 12 for a girl. I love how close it was with the guesses! Hehe, but, of course, someone always loses. And…  Surprise! Mr. Owl and I both were thinking it was a girl for the longest time, more…
