Polka dots, red lips, and real mom confessions

I always wonder how the lives of other mom bloggers go. What do they do day-to-day; what is their routine like; do they actually get dressed for all day??? Because I have a confession: I am usually not dressed until Asa goes down for his nap. Which these days is around 1pm. I don’t generally feel like putting pretty things on, doing my makeup, wearing shoes, or getting hair all done for most of the morning, when there are two meals to be had that could potentially stain clothes, a toddler to be chased, and no clear sightline to the living room from anywhere in the house. And when you’ve…

Striped shirt, polka dot skirt, and lots of bows

This is what I wore for my birthday lunch date with my mama (and these are the flowers my husband brought me). I’ve been wanting to mix these three items for quite a while, but an outfit like this deserves an actual place gone to (unlike most days, where I get dressed for… uh… Asa… and my husband when he gets home…) and not just getting dressed for the sake of blogging. Honestly, being…

    Pink polka-dots and a headscarf

When I was a little girl, I remember for some reason I took a dislike to pink. Perhaps because as a little girl, I was expected to like pink and I had a contradictory nature. Or, it could have been that pink usually came in dusty pastels or dusky roses, and I preferred bright, happy, punchy colors. For whatever reason, I subtly avoided pink well into my teen and adult years, and it became so automatic that I didn’t notice it until I realized that I had very little of the…

Polka dot dress and striped headscarf

Lately, I have realized something about myself: I don’t like making new friends. Now, that’s not to say I don’t like people. I love people! I loved growing up next to my uncle who had nine kids; I love my in-laws and their huge family; I loved working as a barista and a secretary and chatting to new customers daily; I love throwing big parties and being the recipient of big parties. But making new friends is something else. Maintaining a new relationship past the awkward “how much do I share/we need to hang out often” stage and into the “I will tell you everything/we could go months without seeing…
