Gingham and stripes and dots, oh my!

I’ve been feeling really bored with getting dressed lately. Maybe it’s the lack of a huge and varied closet since we moved, maybe it’s that everything has been controlled by ease-of-nursing, but everything I’ve been wearing has gotten plain and modern and uninspiring to me. And there have been other things going on too; little, almost unconscious things. I’ve been feeling unsure about my weight lately, and my current body shape. That post-pregnancy confidence with having my waist back has morphed into a mild awareness that my belly has gone mommy-soft (not that it was ever, ever flat) and is bigger than it used to be, and my hip-to-boob ratio…

How to: Authentic 1920’s Flapper Makeup

I have linked the exact products I used, or similar ones, throughout this blog post. If you click and purchase these, I get a commission, which helps keep up this blog! So thank you! Recently, I came across a video collaboration between a few youtubers who are doing a “makeup through the ages” project, where they all chose an era from which to do a makeup look, from the 1920’s to the 1990’s. So this is love…

Brace yourselves for a huge overload of pictures. Because… oh. my. goodness. If I could only ever wear one thing for the rest of my life, it would be this dress. This dress is perfect. Easter

I hope everyone had a great Easter! My day was spent with both sides of the family, taking lots and lots of pictures of everyone; I got to photograph my cousin’s adorable little girl again (first set of pictures here!), and I took pictures of my parents that I can’t wait to share, and a few family pictures. It was so much fun! I already knew I loved to photograph people, but yesterday reminded me how much. I found this dress on Friday and totally fell in love with it. My mom used to make me holiday dresses every year when I was little, so I’ve gotten into the habit…

    Makeup Look: 1960’s Twiggy

Ever since I’ve sort of made the commitment to more retro styles, I’ve realized a very important thing: it all starts with your head. Whether it’s a hat, makeup, earrings, whatever, I’ve noticed that in order for someone to look totally ensconced in a look, their head has to match what they’re wearing. And I love this. It means I get to do all sorts of fun makeup looks. Today, I want to show you how to do an easy 1960’s mod makeup, inspired by (or totally copying) this picture of Twiggy. As with all of my makeup looks, I should probably  mention I only know what I’ve taught myself…
