    Red Riding Hood

Happy Halloween! Here’s the last installment of my closet-costume characters, and even though she technically doesn’t have red hair and also she has a hood, I’m pretty happy with this one! It’s raining buckets today, so I had to wear something appropriately warm for when we go out trick-or-treating later, and this cape definitely does the trick! Although Mr. Owl is possibly going as Brand from the Goonies, because that’s who he decided to be for the work costume contest today… and he really wants me to go as an 80’s girl. But uh… yeah. I think I’m going to stick with Red Riding Hood. None of us are going…

    Summer Dreamin’

These aren’t the pictures my husband usually takes, but he was at work and I knew we’d be busy when he got home, so I trudged the tripod out and did it myself. I bought this dress when I was pregnant on the off chance that it might fit me post-pregnancy, and then totally forgot about it until the other day when I was riffling through my costume box and found it! I love the colors so much. And the waistline is a little bit funky, but adding a belt helps bring the focus to my natural waist instead of my hips, so it’s not a big nitpick. This afternoon…

    One jumpsuit two ways

So this is a garment that has my family and friends split on whether it’s good or terrible, and I confess I tried it on at the thrift store because it looked crazy and I was going to make fun of it. My dad loves it. My mom and my husband think it’s weird and ugly. And I mean… jumpsuits? I have always been firmly on the “Definitely not!” side of that argument. I used to think only babies should wear onesies (that’s what it is, basically. A grown-up onesie.) Besides, how do you perform basic bodily functions in them? Like, you know, doesn’t it make peeing a bit tedious?…

    70’s girl

Every once in a while, I actually let my hair be its natural self– straight–, and when I do I get this urge to part my hair in the middle. I personally love it– somehow it makes me feel a bit more glamorous than a side part — but my husband? Well… it’s been a journey. First, it was that he didn’t like it, and he couldn’t tell me why. Then, I finally dug out of him that I don’t look like me with my hair like this — aka, it’s just not what he’s used to. Then, he started to just look at me funny before he figured out…

    Weddings and Memories

This weekend, one of my best friends got married in Colorado Springs. I met her back when I was 17 and my dad had a job which moved us around the country, and we lived in New Mexico for nine months. She and I pretty much immediately hit it off right away over an impromptu session of singing Phantom of the Opera, and since then have been the best of friends. I could not be more thrilled for her! I used to reassure her that yes, one day she would get married. It was a great satisfaction to watch her do so, and say “I told you so!”  She was a beautiful…
