Maternity Style: How to Mix Patterns (like a boss)

Every once in a while when I am thrifting, I come across garments or patterns that really bring me back to a place of nostalgia. Whether it’s a jacket that I totally remember wearing in the snow (oh, the bright puffy 80’s-ness!) or turtlenecks that take me back to my really nerdy multicolored Harry-Potter-esque glasses days (although I didn’t know about HP at the time), I love sorting through racks of clothes and being reminded of those years. Most of the time, those things make me laugh. But here and there I come across a piece that is nostalgic in the best way. This dress is one of them. It…

Stripes, headscarves, and thoughts on “plus size.”

Recently, Elana over at Room 334 posted pictures of herself wearing a swimsuit, looking every bit as adorable and stylish as ever. When I finally got to look at the post, I was really refreshed by the normalcy — a girl at the beach in a cute swimsuit who wasn’t claiming insecurity based on body type, who generally wouldn’t have posted bikini pictures not because she thinks her body is unattractive but because she doesn’t feel the need to plaster it in everybody’s faces, who is just… normal. My favorite types of bloggers have always been those to whom I could relate — not super thin, not voluptuously plus sized,…

Mixing polka dots and florals… again.

Yesterday morning, Asa woke up hysterically crying and clingy. This is really unusual for him (I’ve heard some kids just always wake up on the wrong side of the bed, but he usually wakes up chirping “hi! hi! hi!”), so I knew right away that he was sick and expected a day full of runny poops and barfing. All day, though, he just remained lethargic, barely ate, drank lots of water, and only wanted to sleep and cuddle. Throughout the day his temperature stayed around 98 degrees, so I wasn’t too worried. But last night, before my husband and I clocked out for the night, we went in for one…

Four Ways to Wear a Vintage Printed Blouse

I am one of those people who gravitates towards prints, as we all know. And most prints, I find pretty easy to style — patterned skirts? No problem! Floral dresses? I have and wear about 40 (#noshame). Patterned tees? Generally basics, to me. But when I happen upon an unusual patterned vintage button up blouse, suddenly… I’m stumped. It’s a piece I don’t often style, even though I am drawn to and own at least 7 of them. I used to think collars fought with my hair (when it was long), and somehow pattern in this type of garment got intimidating rather than fun. So today I decided to grab…

Vintage novelty print blouse, flower crown, and a thrift haul!

There are so many things going on in this post I don’t even know where to start. First of all, us Shaped By Style girls are hosting a giveaway (Etsy gift card!), so if you love Etsy and also free money, you need to enter that giveaway! With all of our money pooled, we were able to offer quite a good gift card, and I’m so excited for whomever wins! Second, the weather was messing with my photography so much during this photoshoot and it drives me nuts. I wish you could see the pattern on this shirt better in the full-body shots. But then, white print is usually much…
