    Borrowing

One of the nice things about having photographed the vintage in my shop is that on rainy days like today, I can borrow the pictures for an outfit post! This is how I’ve always imagined wearing this skirt, but it doesn’t fit me (it’s a few inches too small in the waist.) The delicate colors just had to be worn with this lace top, andĀ  when I went to style the outfit for the shop, I immediately knew what I’d do. Of course, you can’t see that it’s not actually buttoned, thanks to the belt, but uh… yep. I feel like my hair is very mermaid in this post. I…

    Owl and the Boy Vintage

It’s here! This last weekend, as I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I worked hard to get some listings going, and after consultation with a friend and also some posts on Facebook, I decided to open up shop today! I’m pretty excited about this. For some reason, I almost love finding and styling vintage to sell better than finding and styling vintage to keep. It’s just a really fun process, and I’ve always enjoyed the behind-the-scenes process of styling, shopping, and photographing for things other than personal style. So, what can you expect to pop up in the shop? Well. Right now there are nine items up, most of which are…

    New Endeavors

So this last week, I have been working really hard on something I’ve been wanting to do for ages: opening an Etsy vintage shop! As I have mentioned before, I have an enormous pile of vintage, mostly skirts, that I have been wanting to sell. I’ve tried using a different platform, but I didn’t put much heart into it and I wasn’t willing to invest a little in order to really get it going, so it never amounted to much. But this last week I decided to take the plunge and go with Etsy, and put more effort into taking better pictures of the items, styling them, and expanding the…

    Summer Dreamin’

These aren’t the pictures my husband usually takes, but he was at work and I knew we’d be busy when he got home, so I trudged the tripod out and did it myself. I bought this dress when I was pregnant on the off chance that it might fit me post-pregnancy, and then totally forgot about it until the other day when I was riffling through my costume box and found it! I love the colors so much. And the waistline is a little bit funky, but adding a belt helps bring the focus to my natural waist instead of my hips, so it’s not a big nitpick. This afternoon…

    Playing dress-up

This dress, you guys… this dress. Let me tell you a story about it. I was eight or so months pregnant and at Goodwill browsing the dresses for one or two more frocks to stretch over my then-42″ belly when my fingers brushed over a piece of fabric in the XL section. It felt vintage (if you’ve shopped and searched for vintage long enough, you get the feelĀ  for it), and even though I don’t normally pick out black dresses (or wear black, for that matter), I pulled it out. The first thing I saw was the back: … the beautiful detailing of the pleats, the bow, the semi-ruching, the…
