    Real life versus blog life

We have deer that just hang out in our yard. They were out today. I love them. Do you ever find that, reading back through blog posts or looking at pictures, your blog life seems much more beautiful than your real life? I read on one of those forums I mentioned earlier (GOMI, if you’re curious, which provides some great insight, a lot of laughter (for me), and maybe some hurt if you’re one to take offense easily) that several people have seen fashion bloggers “in the wild” and they dress nothing like their blogging selves, or act nothing like their online persona. On one hand, I want to semi-defend…

    The Girl with Glasses

I have had glasses since I was about eleven or twelve. I don’t remember the exact age, but I do remember the first night I went to our small town church’s youth group after picking up my new pair of spectacles, feeling nervous about the change, wondering if I would get dubbed the nerd or if anyone would even care. After being there for five minutes, the boy I had a crush on said he really liked my  new glasses, and it was set. I was pleased to be the girl with glasses. Maternity Wardrobe: 1970’s hippie dress and the honesty of Mondays.

The honesty of a Monday following a bad night’s sleep and a nearly-canceled (but thankfully, not) thrifting trip to meet a friend whom I had only ever met via blogging and Facebook: today is a day sans makeup, with unbrushed hair hastily pinned into some semblance of a topknot, and earrings only worn because of the discovery of this dress while thrifting.  And, while I am being honest, I am only blogging today because of my love for this dress and my being accustomed to blogging five times a week. It is hard to break the habit once the habit has formed, and in the new year I have made…

Vintage Plaid Skirt and Striped Bolero

This past week, I have been feeling morning sickness unlike the sickness I felt with Asa. It lasts all day, from the moment I emerge from beneath my covers, sloth-like and groaning in the morning light, to the hour I re-enter the dark cave of sleep and bliss. Frustratingly, I cannot stand the smells and flavors of food; the pungent herbal aroma of chicken gravy, the so-strong-you-can-taste-it invasion of garlic, the bold red meatiness of ground beef… I can’t stand any of it. I am left with very few options: fruits, bland vegetables, bare sauces with no spices to speak of, and a craving for plain potato chips and dully-flavored…

Christmas Cocktail Party: Get Ready With Me!

First of all, please take this survey as I am striving to improve the blog in the new year and would love to know what you’d like to see more of, what you think could improve, and any other feedback you might have! I gotta warn you guys, today’s post is going to be very photo-heavy. But since there are only a few days until Christmas, I thought I’d do at least one Christmas-themed outfit/makeup post. A few weekends ago, one of our friends hosted a Christmas party that was Cocktail-dress required, and I didn’t realize that until we were almost to the party. So I didn’t get to go…
