Where’d You Go, Bernadette? | Book Review + Inspired Outfit

And we’re here for another book review! I must confess, I haven’t read 4 books yet this month as I’d hoped, but I’m on my way to finishing the 3rd one, so that’s not too bad! I created a book list page and will link to each review + outfit when I’m done reading all the books. As you can see, I still have a lot of room on my list. So if you have a favorite book (no series/trilogies, please!) let me know! (I also haven’t added all the books I want to read, but I’ll get there!) I particularly enjoy fiction, romance, and fairytales. This week’s book is,…

Let’s Pretend This Never Happened | Book Review + Outfit

I was first aware of Jenny Lawson when the Fug Girls included a link to the hilarious tweets she started getting in reply to her own moment of embarrassment. I’d kind of heard of The Bloggess here and there, but had never clicked over to her blog before then. And it’s a little weird to me to be reviewing the book of a fellow blogger (if I can even include myself in the same category as an award-winning blog and New York Times’ bestseller author which, let’s be honest, I can’t) because that puts her in a more attainable and relatable position than, say, ever meeting Stephen King or getting…

    The frivolity of being

Postpartum depression is an odd thing. The way that it comes and goes without warning never ceases to catch me off guard; one moment I am fine and the next something has touched that deep sadness in me and it rises up to be prominent for a few days before sinking back down again. It’s not constant. It’s not predictable. It’s barely definable, to me. This past weekend started with the slow rise of PPD, and I find myself today feeling the ache more than ever. I’ve noticed recently that certain people I know make it better or worse; certain situations, or sequences of events, lead to my feeling a…

    Walking in a Winter Wonderland

As the New Year gives us a fresh start, I thought it would be most appropriate to share the first snow of the year, which is fresh and clean in and of itself! There is something magical about the snow, and the first days of the new year;  both are crisp and new, both wipe the slate clean, both instill a sense of wonder and excitement for the times ahead. To start out the new year with snow feels incredibly appropriate. It’s always hard to write the first post of the year, for me. I always want it to be something special, yet, generally, nothing has really happened in those…

    Christmas Eve

Merry Christmas Eve!!! Earlier this year, I was perusing my local Goodwill’s fabric section, as I am very prone to do these days now that I have my own sewing machine and kids + a husband (and myself) to sew for, and I saw this fabric. Is it not the most perfect Christmas fabric you’ve ever seen? I bought it with many anxious thoughts about whether or not there was enough – by my estimation using the tips-of-fingers-to-nose measuring (if you don’t know, that usually equals about a yard, give or take), there was about three yards. But since the fabric’s pattern is all one direction, I knew I’d have…
