A Week of Lipstick: Color Roundup

As I mentioned, last week I decided to wear a new shade of lipstick every day. It was a challenge to myself, as a lipstick hoarder but not wearer, to see if I could stand wearing lipstick every day (I hate lipstick marks on my coffee cup, and Asa’s baby fingers go STRAIGHT for colorful lips), and also to see if it made me feel any differently after reading two Buzzfeed articles in which one woman went makeupless for a week, and another WORE makeup for a week. I am a pretty consistent makekup-wearer, especially right now as this pregnancy is making me break out, but while I love to…

    Friday Chat: The Privileged

I was a bit afraid to publish this post. I hope you all know my heart. Today, I want to pare down and have a chat. (Thus, a picture I posted a little while ago on Instagram with no filters and no makeup, because I think it’s appropriate and I am feeling too sick to do the planned bare-faced, jeans-and-tee shots) I’ve been seeing some interesting comments (and gotten some interesting comments) on blogs lately in regards to having confidence and feeling beautiful, fit, pretty, or what have you, and it’s sparked my general need to rant today. Or, you know, present a more thoughtful blog post. The comments I’ve seen…

Vintage Plaid Skirt and Striped Bolero

This past week, I have been feeling morning sickness unlike the sickness I felt with Asa. It lasts all day, from the moment I emerge from beneath my covers, sloth-like and groaning in the morning light, to the hour I re-enter the dark cave of sleep and bliss. Frustratingly, I cannot stand the smells and flavors of food; the pungent herbal aroma of chicken gravy, the so-strong-you-can-taste-it invasion of garlic, the bold red meatiness of ground beef… I can’t stand any of it. I am left with very few options: fruits, bland vegetables, bare sauces with no spices to speak of, and a craving for plain potato chips and dully-flavored…

    Makeup For Hazel Eyes

I always used to wish that my eyes were full-on green, instead of the brown/green hazel, because so many people just say (and argue) that they’re brown. And while I like brown eyes, I always loved green eyes… so I love wearing makeup that emphasizes the green, especially. So yesterday, as I was browsing makeup looks, I came across one that reminded me I have some gorgeous plum shadow I never use, and… voila! This tutorial was born. I also wanted to do a look that leaves my freckles as exposed as possible, so I recently bought some BB cream, and it’s perfect for summer — it’s nice and sheer,…

    Perspective

Some of you may have seen a little bit of this via Instagram and a compare-contrast picture I posted yesterday. But since I’m sick today, I thought it was a good time to expound upon my thoughts. Yesterday, as I was going through my Pinterest outfit archives to save old outfit pictures for a remixed-items album on Facebook, I came across these pictures above and below, and they made me sad. Not because I was going through a bad time in any of these particular pictures or because the images themselves are depressing, but because I remember exactly what I thought of myself on any given day when these pictures…
