Guest Post: 14 Shades of Grey

Hello Eccentric Owl readers! I’m Salazar from 14 Shades of Grey, and I’m super excited to be blog-sitting for Kristina while she’s on maternity leave.

I’ve always greatly admired Kristina’s sense of style, because even though I’ve been blogging for three years, sometimes I’m still struggling to define what my style really is. I’ve heard it described from everything to “whimsical vintage” to “preppy classic”, but I feel neither is exactly right.

When I first started this blog, I had no style at all, and only a vague idea of what I was going for (probably not a good idea) – something more feminine, preferably vintage-inspired. What I didn’t realize was that I love looking at those types of outfit, but I couldn’t really pull them off. I’m a tomboy at heart, after all. That is why at the beginning of the blog, I sometimes had overly twee outfits that I was not comfortable in at all.

Lately, though, I’ve noticed that my outfits are getting a lot simpler. At first it frustrated me because I thought my style was becoming boring, but then I realized, it’s not a change in taste – I still add some vintage-inspired touches like a brooch here and there – but rather, I think I’ve found a way to combine my minimal, functional aesthetics with the vintage-inspired style that I so love. Maybe it’s not as fun or overly feminine as before, and sometimes I still stumble back into the twee path, but mostly these outfits feel more “me”, and they’re more practical too.

So I may still not quite know what my style really is, but that’s OK. Part of the fun is figuring it out and seeing how it changes.

Anyway, thank you for reading my rant. Big thanks to Kristina for letting me post on her blog, and best of luck with Baby Owl!
