Vintage Plaid Skirt and Striped Bolero

This past week, I have been feeling morning sickness unlike the sickness I felt with Asa. It lasts all day, from the moment I emerge from beneath my covers, sloth-like and groaning in the morning light, to the hour I re-enter the dark cave of sleep and bliss. Frustratingly, I cannot stand the smells and flavors of food; the pungent herbal aroma of chicken gravy, the so-strong-you-can-taste-it invasion of garlic, the bold red meatiness of ground beef… I can’t stand any of it. I am left with very few options: fruits, bland vegetables, bare sauces with no spices to speak of, and a craving for plain potato chips and dully-flavored…

Red Cape, Novelty Print Dress, and Life Lately

Well, my friends, as you can safely assume from the above picture, we’re having another baby! We are extremely happy about this. Mr. Owl and I both want at least five kids, if not more, and we’ve had baby fever for a few months now. I debated sharing with you all so early this weekend; I am not due until August 28th (this makes me six weeks pregnant), but as with most women and their second child — and especially with me, who carried large and showed early with Asa — I’m already popping out. I knew I wouldn’t be able to hide the belly for long, especially not if…

    Birth

Well! It’s been almost a month since I’ve had Asa, so I figured I should probably get his birth story written out before I forget details. So settle in, grab a cup of coffee (or tea, or hot chocolate), and have yourself a good read. If you like reading birth stories, that is. Side note, in case you weren’t sure: I chose to have a completely natural and drug-free labor and delivery, using a midwife and her birthing center (basically, it’s like a home birth but at a home that is set up specifically for birthing). If you live in the Seattle/Tacoma area of Washington and are looking for a…

Things I Didn’t Expect: Labor and Postpartum Tips for First-Time Moms-to-Be

I was going to wait until February to start posting again, but knowing several of you are getting close to your due dates, I wanted to share the things I didn’t expect (or people were too shy to tell me) about dealing with labor and life after giving birth outside of the whole “buy lots of diapers, diaper wipes, and nursing pads!” Keep in mind, I had an easy birth; I didn’t tear, and though I had 68 hours of prodromal labor, my active labor was very short, as was the pushing period. Plus, Asa latched well, nurses well, and sleeps pretty dang good for a nine-day-old baby. So if…

    The End of an Era

Well, you guys, this is it! This will be my last outfit post before Asa is born. My last outfit post before I take some maternity leave from the blog for two weeks. The last time you’ll see me (other than on Instagram, which I can’t quit, haha!) before I have an actual, real baby in my arms. I can’t believe it! Even after nine months of preparation, it just doesn’t seem real. I’m sitting here impatient for him to come, but at the same time… I have no idea what it’s going to be like when he’s really here. I will definitely be sharing a picture of him when…
