It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like…

I’m feeling much better about today’s outfit! I wanted to wear something very Christmassy because we’re going to get our Christmas tree and Gingerbread ingredients today, but I don’t have a lot of green in my closet. At the last minute, I spotted this scarf I’ve just gotten from Oasap, and voila! The perfect finishing touch.

And in a brilliant shot of inspiration, I decided to cut some live greenery and pin a few evergreen branches to my head for a nice wintery crown. It all went well until I picked up one that had a suspicious hanging little speck on it. Before I could pull it away from my head, I realized that suddenly, there was a spider in my hair. The worst thing, though? I swiped at it in a panic, and I don’t know where it went. So I could still have a spider on my person. It’s not a comforting thought. It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like... | www.eccentricowl.comIt's Beginning To Look a Lot Like... | I suppose it’s worth the prettiness of the evergreen crown, though!

Today I am excited to share the newest addition to my jewelry wardrobe with you: this gorgeous Anjolee bridal set ring. It’s made to add to your wedding ring, but can also be worn solo it’s so pretty!

It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like... | It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like... | I really love wearing rings, but I’m quite particular about how they look, and it’s always hard for me to find things that are delicate enough to wear on my ring-finger hand. When Anjolee contacted me to do a review and offered up this one for me to choose, I knew it would be the perfect addition! It’s a great match for my wedding ring, and is now the only other piece of jewelry I wear daily! I love that it goes well on my ring hand or my other hand, and it’s so pretty and delicate!

Anjolee is such a great place to look if you’re ring-searching; they are highly customizable, and you can even design your own jewelry! Plus,w hat girl doesn’t like a little sparkle! Aside from rings, they also have earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. There’s so much to choose from!

Plus, their shipping is super fast! I think I got the ring about three or four days after I got the notification that it had shipped. It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like... | www.eccentricowl.comIt's Beginning To Look a Lot Like... | Today, we are going to finally get our Christmas tree, and also get ingredients to make Gingerbread. I’m SO excited; I wasn’t sure if we would be getting a tree this year, since we’re house-sitting and we have nothing with us, but I think I’m going to try to DIY some Christmas ornaments, and we’re going to pop and string popcorn on the tree. It’ll be super simple this year, but that’s okay! This year is the year of everything handmade.  It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like... | www.eccentricowl.comIt's Beginning To Look a Lot Like... | I was feeling a little bit sad for us since it’s Asa’s first Christmas, and I wanted to make it super special but since I quit my job we’re a lot poorer (in the bank account)… but then I realized it’s still going to be fun. Actually, I’m having more fun this Christmas so far than I have in a while, and I think it’s because I have to get more creative and because we have to make everything. My heart is going into the things I’m doing this year much more than other years where I’ve had money to spare and just bought everything instead of getting creative.

So, armed with some cardboard, yarn, popcorn, paint, fabric, and glitter… I’ll see what I can do. We might buy a small thing of glass bulbs just to add a little more substance to the decor on the tree, but I’m going to try to make as many ornaments by hand as I can, with what I have laying around at this house! It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like... | It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like... | And I’m actually pretty excited about it!

Are you DIY-ing anything this year? It’s funny because on at least three blogs, if not more, I’ve seen the whole brown paper+ribbon/yarn/twine/whatever for wrapping paper this year, and I totally did that last year. You guys, I am so ahead of the trends. I hope you are all enjoying the Christmas season! I haven’t felt Christmassy yet, but I think it’s because we have no tree. I’m so excited to get started with more decorating once the tree is here!

Happy Friday!

The Second Best Thing

The Second Best Thing | www.eccentricowl.comDressember DaysThe Second Best Thing | Since we’re starting our anniversary celebration today, I sent my husband a text asking what his favorite thing was for me to wear, since I feel most attractive when I know he thinks I look good. He texted back two answers.

This dress was his second one. His first answer was uh… not appropriate for public. We’ll leave it at that. Haha! The Second Best Thing | He’s actually not super fond of this coat; it reminds him of the Matrix, since it’s leather, and he isn’t too sure about the color even though he has a coat in the exact same shade. Maybe it’s too much like his and he thinks it looks too masculine… which… I disagree with. The lapel and the cut are uber feminine, in my opinion, and it being leather just gives it the perfect amount of edge. The Second Best Thing | The Second Best Thing | This dress, though! I love this dress. I haven’t worn it in quite a while because the seams were coming apart, which is an easy enough fix… but… as I’ve mentioned before, I’m pretty slow at getting my piles mended. I knew I needed to sew it up for Dressember, though, and once I did I wondered why I hadn’t gotten to it sooner! It seriously took me less than five minutes to fix the popped seams. The Second Best Thing |   This dress was made to move. I meant to fix it when it was full-blown fall out, but uh… better late than never?

I’ve just realized as I have been sitting here for the last five minutes staring blankly at my computer that having a blog with pictures that focus on fashion makes it really hard to talk about anything else. I had a million thoughts and ideas rushing through my head as I got dressed, but once I was done with pictures none of them really fit.

The Second Best Thing | www.eccentricowl.comThe Second Best Thing | www.eccentricowl.comThe Second Best Thing | I think that’s a big thing with me: the pictures and the text have to go together. That’s why even when I write up a long post about something non-fashion related that I love, I don’t always publish it. I don’t write about motherhood a lot because I like my posts to be image-based and… then it makes it harder for me to switch over to things other than what I’m wearing.

I’m going to try hard to break that trend, because I don’t think a blogger should be trapped in fashion-speak just because that’s what’s in their pictures. There is so much more in my head that I want to combine with these pictures, I just have to find a way in my match-obsessed head to meld real-life talk with the frivolity of what I’m wearing that day.The Second Best Thing | The Second Best Thing | If you’re a style blogger, how do you deal with this? Do you feel the urge to write about what you’ve taken pictures of, or to at least match the mood of your outfit to what you write? Or do you throw cohesive image-to-text posts to the wind and just write whatever the heck you want with what you post?

I don’t really want to have text-only posts, because while I value those posts on other blogs, it’s just not me or my blog. I’ve tried, and they just don’t feel like me any more. The Second Best Thing |

I’m trying to write down ideas when I get them, and I think my challenge this month (to add to Dressember and wearing more patterns mixed) will be to write about at least one more serious subject a week. Some of them might be fashion related, some will be about motherhood, some… who knows. I’m constantly striving to make sure that I share the real me on the blog, and I don’t want laziness to steal that away!

I hope you have all had a good week! Today, Asa finally got back to his normal good-baby routine of actually going to sleep when I put him down for naps, and I’m hoping he’s good for his grandma tonight! It’s been such a relief after the entire week of fighting him to get him to nap. I am so looking forward to spending some actual alone time with my husband today! If I don’t get around to posting the weekend’s dresses here on the blog, check Instagram or Facebook; I’ll be sure to post a shot there.

And if you wouldn’t mind, please continue to vote for me in the Firmoo blogger contest! You can vote once a day! I’m sure I won’t win, as there are so many fabulous women to vote for, but it’s worth a shot!

Happy Friday!

Dressember is Here!

Dressember is Here! | www.eccentricowl.comDressember Day OneDressember is Here! | It’s December! I cannot believe we are here already, but I am so excited to participate in another Dressember.

If you weren’t around last year and are wondering, Dressember is a fashion challenge for charity: women (and men, I suppose) wear a dress every day of the month in December to raise money towards freeing enslaved and abused women all over the world. 100% of the donated funds go directly to the International Justice Mission, an organization that helps abolish slavery, sexual exploitation, and other forms of oppression.

Dressember is Here! | I found Dressember last year through a sponsor, and I was immediately drawn to help!

It is a cause that resonates deeply with me as a woman, as a style blogger, and as a follower of Christ, and I am excited every year to put into action these two verses: Proverbs 31:8 and Psalm 82:3, which say respectively “speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed.” and “Stand up for those who are weak and for those whose fathers have died. See to it that those who are poor and those who are beaten down are treated fairly.

I have always wanted to do something better with my blog, and every year I will definitely be utilizing my resources to help this campaign. I mean, I do have over 50 dresses, so I can definitely wear one every day of the month for something like this!Dressember is Here! | And what better way to kick off the month than with this gorgeous dress? I’d had my eye on this dress already, but then when I won a giveaway for credits to New Old Fashion Vintage, that just sealed the deal and I snapped it up immediately! I cannot resist prints like this: flowers, mushrooms, and butterflies are RIGHT up my alley. Plus, it’s got a twirly skirt and will transition through all of the seasons pretty well!  Dressember is Here! | Dressember is Here! | www.eccentricowl.comDressember is Here! | For the entirety of the month I will be offering anyone who donates $10 or more to my campaign (which all goes to the mission!) a medium sized month-long ad in my sidebar. All you have to do is donate, let me know you’ve done so, and send me over your ad! (via email, please!) So if you want to be a part but you don’t have enough dresses, here’s your chance!Dressember is Here! |

And if you have started your own campaign, let me know! I want to see your beautiful dresses! I will be trying to do a Dressember link-up every week with my favorites from those of you that are participating!

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday, and happy dress-wearing!
