Inspired outfit/Book Review: The Flight of Gemma Hardy

I grabbed this book at a garage sale because 1. I liked the cover, 2. I’m looking for new books to read and can’t get to the library often, and 3. I very quickly skimmed the first few sentences of the summary and it sounded interesting. I started reading it that night, and was immediately struck by how very similar to Jane Eyre it was, which confused me for a second as the part of the summary I’d read didn’t mention it being a retelling. So I scanned the back again, and there at the top as a review for the book was the statement: “In The Flight of Gemma…

Mixing polka dots and florals… again.

Yesterday morning, Asa woke up hysterically crying and clingy. This is really unusual for him (I’ve heard some kids just always wake up on the wrong side of the bed, but he usually wakes up chirping “hi! hi! hi!”), so I knew right away that he was sick and expected a day full of runny poops and barfing. All day, though, he just remained lethargic, barely ate, drank lots of water, and only wanted to sleep and cuddle. Throughout the day his temperature stayed around 98 degrees, so I wasn’t too worried. But last night, before my husband and I clocked out for the night, we went in for one…

Retro floral skirt, polka dots, and 1950’s makeup

Any time I research anything like “1950’s style” or “1950’s makeup/hair looks”, I’m always overwhelmed and bored by how many people think that the equation for a 50’s look is just victory rolls + red lips + cat eye + fluffy skirt. And I just want to shout “you guys, come ON. Have you ever even watched a movie from the fifties???” Sure, sometimes they wore red lipstick. Sometimes they did victory rolls. Sometimes they had fluffy skirts held out by petticoats.…

    Yellow and Blue

Behold, my second attempt to take pictures by myself while Mr. Owl was working. My first attempt was not so great. And these are all just a tiny bit out of focus, but for a second try with a camera that only has a timer and no remote… I’ll live with them. I wore this a few weeks ago, back before I broke my computer cord, and I loved it. I felt very business-woman-y. Which I’m not sure if that’s quite my style, but it worked for the day. It works for my job. While I was taking these pictures, a neighbor (ish) came up the driveway and introduced herself,…

    Without

Since the time change means it’s dark by the time I see Mr. Owl, I decided today to take pictures into my own hands. Because I have these new shoes and this new dress that aren’t even really new any more that I haven’t even worn on the blog. Getting engaged really messes with taking outfit pictures, I tell ya. All that wedding planning. Gosh. I miss blogging regularly. So these pictures are nowhere near the loveliness that Mr. Owl’s are, and it has been FOREVER since I’ve taken my own pictures so I’m totally out of sync with the camera… and also, an essential piece of my tripod is…
