A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

Happy Halloween! This year’s costume was not really planned very far in advance. I figured that like last year, I would just pull together something from my closet and be good, but then I found this dress. And even after I found the dress, I didn’t immediately think “Ooh, Cinderella!” because originally it had a high lace collar  that made it look more Sister Wife than Disney Princess (I posted a shot of the before on Facebook here). But then after deciding that I loved the color and flow of the dress too much to repair and sell it (the sleeve seams underneath were split) and knowing that I would…

    Sunday Sweets: Halloween Edition

This year, we all went on our very first Trick-or-Treat adventure with Asa’s cousins; Mr. Owl and I have never gone, and it’s Asa’s first Halloween. So we got dressed up in our costumes (Mr. Owl as Brand from the Goonies, me a generic 80’s girl at his request, Asa a frog) and traipsed around a shopping center asking for candy from store owners. Obviously, Asa is still too little for candy. But that didn’t stop anyone from giving it to him! It was a lot of fun. At one point, I walked up to a booth with all four of my nephews scurrying around me, and the lady…

    Red Riding Hood

Happy Halloween! Here’s the last installment of my closet-costume characters, and even though she technically doesn’t have red hair and also she has a hood, I’m pretty happy with this one! It’s raining buckets today, so I had to wear something appropriately warm for when we go out trick-or-treating later, and this cape definitely does the trick! Although Mr. Owl is possibly going as Brand from the Goonies, because that’s who he decided to be for the work costume contest today… and he really wants me to go as an 80’s girl. But uh… yeah. I think I’m going to stick with Red Riding Hood. None of us are going…

All Ways are the Queen’s Ways

OH MY GOODNESS YOU GUYS. FAVORITE. COSTUME. EVER. Sorry for the all-caps, but seriously. I didn’t expect this to come out as good as it did; I was really struggling with what to wear from my collection of red things — this, or this, or this, or this — and I finally decided the lace dress worked the best with these tights. But I still wasn’t that enthralled with it; I’m kind of over the shorter length of dresses on me with heels… and I was also missing some pattern to tie in the black shoes and black belt. And I thought… you know, this skirt has always reminded me…

    Poison Ivy

So I am definitely not happy with today’s post, other than the makeup. But then, considering that this character is usually REALLY… uh… slutty… well. It’s the best I could do. Makeup-wise, I took inspiration from this picture, the purple flower in her hair, and… of course, lots of green. I would have loved to have done a more fitted dress, or perhaps green pants and a tee, or to have been covered in vines and leaves, but oh well! Next time, when I have more time and energy and costume material.   I am mostly happy with how the makeup turned out, though! I think I also want to try…
