    A Farewell to Arms

Yesterday morning was probably the last time I will ever nurse Asa. It’s not a decision I made willingly, and I’m incredibly brokenhearted about it. But over the last three months, my milk supply has been dropping steadily, and nothing I tried — lactation tea, lactation cookies, staying hydrated, eating more, nursing more often — helped. My body just decided it’s time to stop with the breastfeeding. Plus, Asa is getting much more independent, so most of the time he just wasn’t interested in nursing so much as feeding from the bottle. By himself.  The night before I knew it would be the last time, I was pretty broken up…

    The Fault in our Plaids

I realize that at its core, this outfit is basically the same thing as yesterday’s outfit — you know, animal-print beigey and black shirt, plaid wool pleated skirt — but the thing is… I don’t really care. Because if we’re being honest, I’ve been awake since 5:26am, I don’t actually remember the last time I showered, we watched the last half of Lilo and Stitch before 8:30am, I’m on my third cup of coffee today, I’m wearing clashing jewelry (silver earrings, gold brooch), and I’m currently feeding my child snacks off the floor while I blog. Mom life, you guys. At its finest. Besides which, I am really addicted to…

    Filmmaking and Ladybirds

I’m going to start this post off with something different than normal, because I’m too excited about it to put this at the end: So this is the film we made for this year’s  72 hour Gig Harbor Film Festival Competition (here’s last year’s. I’m acting. Ugh. Don’t judge me by it.), and this year I felt like we put a lot more into it than we did last year. I did, anyway: we actually went out to buy costumes and props this year; we spent a good deal more time on the makeup and all (that’s my werewolf brother, being a trooper and wearing fake nails for me), and…

    Ladylike

Right now, I am reading two books set in a Victorian-ish era– Behind the Shattered Glass, and Mansfield Park and Mummies. And then I’ve got four books waiting for me at the library, of varying eras. You guys. Four  books. All in all, that’s six books to read in five weeks. I didn’t really expect a few of the books I put on hold to actually come in so fast, but… here they all are! So you can expect a few book reviews/inspired outfits, because… books. So many of them.  I used to read all the time, and write all the time, but then all of the sudden I got too…

    Bewitching

Today, the weather is that perfect misty gray that always comes with fall here. It’s the kind of day you want to spend curled up in a chair with a good cup of tea, a cozy blanket, and a fascinating book – which I very much plan to do while my child currently naps. It’s also the kind of weather that apparently brings out my dark side. After seeing how enchantingly misty everything was this morning, I knew I had to take photos in the old barn (which I utilized yesterday as well, taking my brother’s family pictures), and I knew I wanted it to have a more Gothic feel.…
