    Farm Girl

I am basically a farm-girl at heart. I never really think about myself as a country girl, but I did grow up in the country, on a farm… of sorts. If you count having chickens, dogs, cats, an orchard, woods, and a huge garden a farm. But I grew up in the foothills of the Washington coast, which is largely farm area (at least where I live, it is) full of trees that border large fields, farms with quaint red barns and sheep and horses (and lots and lots of chickens), dogs who bark with friendly, curious intent as you walk by, and countless barn cats. And I don’t think…

    Simplicity

I spent most of the day today in my underclothes, being sticky and hot, split between finishing Catching Fire and cleaning the upstairs of our house. And, to be honest, I only got dressed properly because we had to leave the house. But today has felt like a day for simplicity, so I resorted to a color I rarely wear (black), disregarded all accessories except my Arwen necklace, and went for a no-makeup makeup look that I might actually try more often.  Some days, simplicity is just the best. Yesterday was the most beautifully hot day ever. After work, I immediately changed into this because my work outfit just wasn’t cutting it for the heat. Those of you that have followed my blog forever will know that this skirt used to be a pair of shorts. Hideous ones. But, obviously, it was nothing a pair of scissors and a little stint at the sewing machine couldn’t change! We went downtown Gig Harbor for ice cream when Mr. O. got home, and as you can see, while we strolled in the heat, my hair fluffed out for the first time… ever. I’ve never dealt with frizzy hair before because my hair is…

Coral owls and new blonde hair

I think summer has come and totally kicked the drizzle of spring out. Super early. It’s supposed to get up into the seventies-eighties this week and stay there well into the weekend. I’m so excited! I LOVE the warm weather, even if it means our upstairs is a total heat box at night, and during the day I just stare out the window at work and wish I could go out and play. I still really, really, really love the blonde hair. Given, it’s only been five days since I got it dyed, but I just love it more every day! A few tips, for anyone thinking of going blonde:…
