Downton Abbey, Hunger Games, Doctor Who, and Fall

This post will come to you in the manner of a list, because I have lots of thoughts today and I have to organize them somehow. As a forewarning, if you haven’t yet watched season three of Downton Abbey, or you don’t know how the Hunger Games trilogy ends, you should probably skip points two and three. Spoilers! 1. To say I felt saucy in these sunglasses would be an understatement. So, you know, forgive me for some of the poses. I was having lots of fun. Mr. Owl and I went shopping yesterday, since it was Labor Day and he had the day off, and I had the hardest…

    Stars and Stripes

Happy Fourth of July! So far, today has been great for me. I have the day off, which is wonderful (except I’ll have to work tomorrow, which means I can’t stay up too late…), and I slept in till an uprecedented 9:30. You guys, when you’re pregnant, sleeping in is even better. It’s like heaven. The weather isn’t looking too promising but I’m going to have faith in the forecast, which says it’ll be sunny and in the 70’s by one o’clock. I hope. I don’t even mind working when there’s sunlight to greet me at the end of the day. It’s so wonderful! I especially love the back of this shirt; I convinced Mr. Owl to buy it for…

    Summer Wishes

Under the light of full disclosure, I only wore these sandal wedges for half the day. See, when we left our house, it was sunny and windless, and while not necessarily warm, at least it wasn’t cold. But then, of course, I had the brilliant idea to take photos downtown by the water where it’s naturally colderĀ and windier, and basically… froze my toes off. After we were done, I immediately changed into a nice warm coat and some comfy flats! Ah, the things we do for outfit pictures! My lovely husband endured the cold with me, thank goodness. I’m getting used to taking pictures on my own, but there’s definitely…

    Revelations and Introductions

Quite a few of you new readers probably don’t know that Mara is not my real name. I have been blogging and posting on the internet as Mara since I was sixteen– spurred by my old username and elf name, Maranwe Telrunya– and the fact that when I started up online, I was young and the internet seemed like a scary place. I decided quite a while ago that when I publish my writing, I would like to use the pseudonym Mara Bjornsson (the last name is a very old spelling of my real last name) because I never thought my real name was very author-y. But lately, along with…
