You can call me Sweetheart, but don’t call me Babe. Unless you’re Irish.

So look who finally made an eyeliner tutorial video! After… who knows how long since the first person asked for it. I apologize if I went too fast or if something didn’t quite make sense: these makeup videos aren’t based on things I’ve been taught, so I’m never sure if I can teach them to someone, since… I don’t have anyone else’s teaching to base mine on. If that makes sense.

And if you’re wondering what the whitish flecks are in my hair… it’s paint. From… painting.

In other exciting news, I wore an actual outfit today! One that isn’t doused in any sort of syrup from work!

That is my wall. In my new room. I think it’s the most fantastic color ever for walls, and it makes indoor outfit photographs so much prettier.

And please don’t look at my feet and go “what the heck was she thinking???”. I’ve seen other people wear tights and sandals, so I thought I’d give it a go. I think I like it. Other than the fact that I can’t, you know, walk… because tights are slippery and these sandals were made for summer. When people don’t wear tights or socks. And don’t need traction on the inside of their shoe.

I didn’t get a lot of good shots in here, mostly because I’m not so great with indoor lighting, but also because these shoes, me, and a messy floor made for a really bad photo session. Let’s just say… it’s a good thing nothing in my room is that breakable.

I hope you’ll forgive the graininess of that picture. Lighting. Ugh. If they weren’t fixing the pipes in the garage, I’d be outside with my pictures. Oh well.

So, in case you were wondering about the title: at work, a lot of the male customers call me pet names such as Sweetheart, Gorgeous, Honey, etc., and I have never cared what they call me so far until this morning, when a regular called me “babe.” Now, I have nothing against that pet name. I never cared one way or the other or even thought about it until I watched Murphy’s Law and decided I really wouldn’t mind being called “babe” if it was said with an Irish accent.

But there’s something decidedly intimate about “babe” to me. And I don’t mind any other pet names, but I think I’d prefer not to be called babe by anyone but my husband. (Especially if he’s Irish…)

Anyway. So what do you think about sandals+tights? Yea, nay? Who cares? And please ignore the pine needles on the floor. we haven’t found the vacuum yet.

This is completely unrelated, but I wanted to share my  new favorite lip-adornments with you. I just bought them, and I love them all.

Pencil: Rimmel 1000 Kisses in Red Dynamite (I’m wearing it in the above video); Back row: Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm in Grape Vine, Maybelline lipstick in Fuchsia Fever, Revlon lipstick in Kiss Me Coral; Front row: Maybelline lipsticks in Coral Crush and Red Revolution.

And no, the coral ones are not the same. 😀 One is darker. So there.

Well, that’s all from me today! I hope you all have a beautiful Tuesday!

Ooh, I want to see you new room, it looks cute!

I looove lipstick. I have way too many to ever use, but I’m trying to use them all. 🙂

For some reason, I see sweetheart as too personal. I wouldn’t want a stranger to call me that, only my husband. Although I get weirded out if any man other than my dad calls me any pet name like that, so I guess I don’t count! 🙂

I’ve been waiting until my room is clear of all the debris from moving. Which it now is, so… video or picture tour coming soon! 😀

Haha, me too. I had two boxes of lipsticks that I never used, so I finally went through and threw away the ones that were incredibly old (like… five to six years old…) and then also threw away the ones I knew weren’t flattering on me. And now I have to buy more to make up for the ones I threw away. 😀

Yeah, I think part of why I don’t care is that I got used to it when I lived in Mississippi. Everyone there called me (and my mom, and sometimes even my dad) Sweetheart or Honey. But Babe is too close to Baby, and if any guy who isn’t my husband called me Baby, it’s just… weird. 😀 Hehe.

My first reaction when I saw the first picture: love the shoes with the tights! LOL It didn’t even occur to me that those were tights with *sandals*, I just liked the colours together. I know that a lot of people can’t accept certain clothes combinations on principle (especially men), but I think it’s ultimately a matter of which specific colours, shapes, fabrics you’re trying to match, more than “concepts”.

I like sandals, but they tend to hurt my skin a lot (especially the first days), so the idea of wearing light, thin, pretty socks or tights with them would make sense to me.

I’m personally not a fan of pet names in general, especially from strangers. My boyfriend only calls me “dear” or “sweetheart” on a regular basis, and I like it that way.

    • Mara

Well, I guess that’s a good thing then, right? 😀 Haha! You’re right about men not accepting certain clothes combinations. Although so far, my dad and brother haven’t ever looked at me like “what the heck???” But they didn’t see my tights+sandals combo. 😀

My family isn’t big on pet names, so I’ve only ever been called “punkin” by my dad and “sweetie” by my mom. I am sort of outgoing, though, so maybe that’s why I don’t mind most pet names. That, and I lived in Mississippi where everyone calls everyone by some sort of pet name. 😀

THANK YOU FOR THE TUTORIAL! I’m usually not one to put things in all caps (because whenever I read it, my thoughts scream in my head…fun times), but this was an all-caps moment. Whenever I put on eyeliner, it’s like the eyeliner wants to do a color-by-numbers with various parts of my eye. And it looks like blah. But thanks to you, it might look a little better. Maybe?

And I totally love the tights+sandals combo 😉

    • Mara

You’re welcome! I feel so flattered to be all-capped at for that reason. 😀 Hehehe. Hopefully your eyeliner attempts will get better!

      Thank you! Me too.

we need a room introduction video ;D
because, i swear, my room color looks the same & we moved this past Saturday as well! what a coincidence.
so my room is full of boxes that i should be unpacking, but i’m “doing my homework” (aka on the computer) and well, i wanna attempt NaNoWriMo this year. i’m not sure if i’ll be able to finish, but we can see. (:
i’m so behind though. like, 8 days, since i wasn’t sure if i wanted to do it this year. but apparently my English teacher is offering 20 points of extra credit if we do. ^^

    ANYWAY. i’m going to put your video on my Watch Later playlist so i can concentrate on my NaNoWriMo novel and/or homework. but i love your room color (;

    also, i love the tights+slipperysandals combo ^^

    • Mara

I’ll do one as soon as I can! (Aka as soon as I figure out where to put my books, and the two boxes of things I have no room for… sigh…)
That’s really weird! Do you also have a cat and a love for owls? 😀
I don’t think I’m going to be able to finish NaNoWriMo this year, either, but it’s fun to try. And it gets my creativity going.

      Thank you!

What an awesome video!!! I’ve been waiting for this like Christmas! And it didn;t dissappoint! “Hellooooo! So that was a weird hello…” and “I’m distracted by the window” were my favorite moments hahahahah! 😀 Kidding aside, though, you make it seem so easy! I know I’ll mess it all up, apparently it’s just one more of your many many talents, but I’ll try to exercise… I think that the one with the pencil might be the easiest? I’m not sure. My favorite line though was the last one with the liquid eye liner… I know that you said you didn’t want such a thick line, but I thought it looked perfect with you red lipstick! Very ‘Mad Men’, if I may say so! The lipctick by the way looks goooorgeous on you!
And as for the outfit it’s the cutest 🙂 The top is adorable and of course I adore the tights-sandals combination! I mean, if you like your shoes, why wear them only in summer? That said though I don’t have the guts to try it… I think that people in my place will criticise me and even though I know I shouldn’t care, I still do… so yeah.. I’ll just admire you! 😀
As for the ‘babe’ thing…well, I don’t think I’d really like it if someone called me like this, but ok.. people use it all the time, it doesn’t seem too personal for them. Plus, for some weird reason I’m persuaded that the man you’ll marry, will be Irish. And when I say I believe it, I really do haha! And I have NO idea how’s an Irish accent, I just know that I can’t understand what they’re saying!!! :@ Tsk..tsk…and I want to be a translator, ironic 😛

P.S. I can’t wait to see pics of your new room! 😀

    • Mara

Hehe, i’m glad you liked it. It IS easy, once you get used to eyeliner. As with all things, it just takes a bit of practice. 😉
I agree, I do like the boldness of the liquid eyeliner, but it’s just a pain to work with, and I’m sort of lazy. I don’t like taking forever on makeup. 😀 😉 Thank you, love!

Do it anyway! It’s amazing how many people have told me they wish they dressed like I did once I started… you know, dressing the way I do. <3 so I think you should try it. You might find that people admire you for it rather than ridicule you. 😉

Oh, you must find and listen to an Irish accent someday! It's one of my favorites. It's very melodic.

    • Mara

Haha! I know, looking at my clothes I was thinking “Dang, it’s been a while since I’ve clothes-shopped at Goodwill.” or anywhere, for that matter. 😀 Resist! Unless you have the budget for it, in which case… go forth and conquer!

I love tights and sandals. one of my favourite combinations especially with contrasting colours. I have been known to prance around in mustard tights and blue clog sandals 🙂 excellent blogging!

  • Jamie Rose

That sweater looks so cute with the floral print skirt. I like the tights with those sandals, but I completely agree with them being hard to walk in because it’s slippery! That’s why I don’t do it very much. I can’t really walk all the way to class slipping around in my shoes.

    • Mara

Yeah, I don’t think I would have lasted all day in these. These shoes are a little big on me anyway, so it wasn’t the greatest practical combination. But it was fun while it lasted!
