This post features a gifted dress that was chosen by me. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
As August draws to a close, I am really feeling the urge to get into subtly spooky vibes. This Unique Vintage bat print dress is the perfect addition to my closet for the season! As soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to pose with our pumpkins and create a wonderfully vintage Halloween vibe. This dress is fantastic for fall weather with its thicker, stretchy material and 3/4 length sleeves. It features subtle bats printed (?) all over in a leathery texture, which I really love as it’s not immediately apparent what the print is. And with the shorter length, it’s a great way to show off some cute tights! While I normally prefer longer lengths and do wish this print was available in something longer, I actually really enjoy the look of this dress with tights and perhaps I might add a few shorter things in just for that purpose.
This dress comes with a matching belt in black, and fits pretty true to size. I am right in between their size chart measurements, so decided to opt for the larger size and it fits comfortably with no bagginess, but has enough stretch that if I gained weight I know it would still fit!
I completed the look with a vintage feather headband, orange belt of my own, some orange shoes (I just discovered this brand on Amazon, and they’re SO comfortable!), and some striped tights. One of the things I’m constantly searching for as a semi-plus size on the bottom half is tights that will work well for my height and weight. Often, tights are “one size fits all” and that definitely doesn’t cut it for me. I’ve tried so many brands that boast “one size fits all/most” that I’m very wary when there aren’t size choices for tights. Perhaps I’m wrong, but in my opinion I’m a fairly average size – a 14/16 jean, a 12 dress, a M/L top – but most standard tights don’t work for me.
We Love Colors is my tried-and-true staple for tights, but they don’t offer the patterns I wanted. So off to Amazon I went, searching for some good reviews for plus size striped tights. I waffled quite a bit before deciding on these – would the legs stretch comfortably? Would the strap be too short? Would the fit feel awkward? Much to my delight, these have been the most comfortable fishnet-style tights I’ve ever gotten. They easily stretch for my size and would fit larger as well; I would say if anything you might have trouble wearing them if you’re smaller than me. The only awkward thing about them is detangling the straps if they get mixed up while you’re putting them on. Otherwise, I’ve worn all four pairs that come in the pack, and love them!
And as you might be able to tell by that lengthly saga about tights, what I’m most excited for this autumn is… you guessed it… wearing tights! I had forgotten just how much I love them; last year I feel I didn’t really employ patterns much in my leg-covering style. I’m determined to build up a wardrobe of tights for the cooler months as they come.
And, a wardrobe of fun, spooky prints like this UV dress! As a person who is well known for loving color, I don’t have many black or grey or brown things in my wardrobe, and it might be time to change this! I’m really loving the idea of neutral colored clothes and combining different patterns and textured things to create an outfit that is really interesting to look at not just for color, but for other things too.
Are you ready for fall yet, or are you still clinging to the last few weeks of summer?
