    Rain, gingham, and sweater tights

Just when we all thought that spring – the sunshiny, flowers-are-blooming, warm-and-golden days we all want forever- was here to stay, the week turned rainy. But that’s Washington for you. The weather is a jerk. It gets you all excited for better days, and then dumps rain like nobody’s business. On the bright side, that’s why everything here is so green… And on the other bright side, that means I can legitimately pose with an umbrella. Am I the only one who doesn’t like using props unless they’re actually practical for the outfit? Maybe that’s why I have never been a purse person, because to me I only need one.…

    My Week on Instagram

The two biggest things of the week, obviously: I started writing again (and subsequently kept forgetting descriptive words and just marking my place with “WORD” so that I could go back and replace it. Hopefully I remember to actually do that…) and I went blonde. I am shocked by how big of a difference it made to go blonde! So many people didn’t recognize me. Because of the blonde-ness, I also updated my makeup routine. Which you can see in full here. I’m loving the new colors I can get away with now having blonde hair. It’s amazing how changing your hair color can open up  new possibilities that you wouldn’t have…

    Wedding: A Makeup Tutorial

I am doing my own makeup and hair for my wedding. This isn’t a very scary prospect for me; I know some brides get tense thinking about doing their own makeup and hair, because they want it to be perfect and they’re afraid they can’t do it alone, but believe me: it’s way easier than you might think! Plus, I’m not big on things like fake eyelashes or a bazillion steps for perfect skin. So I thought I would bring you an easy, relatively quick (say… 15 minutes max, skin included) and glamorous makeup look using a makeup palette that was under $6, a $3 gel eyeliner, and only three…

    Friday Links: Wedding Style

What I hope my wedding will evoke: 1. paper lanterns 2. the perfect wedding dress 3. flower headband 4. pie in jars 5. owl cake toppers 6. wildflower bouquet 7. foresty wedding cake. Just to warn you guys, this blog might become very wedding-focused in the next four months. But I am (naturally, and obviously) really excited, so you know. So far, everything has been falling into place incredibly easily. We have a place, a date, an officiant, colors, a photographer, my aunt will make our wedding cake and desserts (we’re having pie and cake in 4oz mason jars, and then she’s going to make us a personal cake to cut that…

    Almost Lover

I thought I’d do something a little different– black and white pictures. Or almost black and white. I never do colorless things (you know me and bright colors) but my outfit is all black, brown, and cream today so it doesn’t detract much to make it grayscale. Right? I’ve had Almost Lover stuck in my head all day. It has become a sort of inspiration/theme song for that vampire novel I’m trying to finish this month, and I can’t stop singing it. It’s one of the most beautiful songs ever. And my boss was mocking me when I was humming it at work. Which made it slightly less beautiful. Darn…
