Polka dots, red lips, and real mom confessions

I always wonder how the lives of other mom bloggers go. What do they do day-to-day; what is their routine like; do they actually get dressed for all day??? Because I have a confession: I am usually not dressed until Asa goes down for his nap. Which these days is around 1pm. I don’t generally feel like putting pretty things on, doing my makeup, wearing shoes, or getting hair all done for most of the morning, when there are two meals to be had that could potentially stain clothes, a toddler to be chased, and no clear sightline to the living room from anywhere in the house. And when you’ve…

Daily snaps: Baby in a Basket

I’m still trying to figure out a good “name” for daily life snapshots, because my categorical mind needs a label for these posts. Any ideas? Today I’ve been limiting my internet usage a LOT, due partly to Asa’s dropping his morning nap, and also to the fact that I realized I will never regret spending more time with my kids and less time on the internet or watching TV. My goal is to only ever be online when Asa is sleeping, but right now he’s awake and playing by himself, so I’ve got some free time. Today has been laundry day plus packing away all of Asa’s 12 month clothes.…

Sequined Peter Pan collar, stripes, and a pleated skirt

Today, I am creating a baby registry for all the girly things! You guys, I almost wore this today, but decided that heels are just not my thing any more (oh, pregnancy) and also the waist of that dress is just too tight. It’s going to be hard not to do overkill now that I know this baby is a GIRL. A girl!!! I am definitely not going to be one of those cool moms who gender-neutralizes everything because… yeah, no, not my personality. Or preference. I like my girls to be girls and my boys to be boys (and that’s not a political statement there, I just think tutus…

Baby Number Two: Pink, or Blue?

Happy April 1st! But this actually isn’t a joke. We’re having a girl, and I totally knew it! I’m SO excited. I was hoping we could do the gender reveal idea I wanted to do, and while it would have been cute with a boy too, I just… I think it’s cuter with a girl. Haha! I would have cried when the Doctor got to the “what gender do you think THAT is?” part, except it was a man, and he was older, and I don’t like crying in front of strangers. So, you know. I cried inside, with happiness. I’m so excited to buy girly clothes and girly toys…

    Afternoon cuteness

Yesterday and today have been unusually warm (around 70-75 yesterday, and 65ish today), so I’ve been trying to take advantage and get both of us outside. Yesterday I made the mistake of walking to the beach, which was fine on the way there, but on the way back there is one very, very long hill up to our house (I’m talking, like 1/2 a mile of a hill, which is a lot when you’re 18 weeks pregnant, have to pee, it’s 75 degrees out, and you’re pushing a stroller with a 25lb toddler in it). I also made the mistake of telling my parents I was good to walk back…
