Polka dots, a headscarf, and (oh my goodness!) jeans

I posted a picture of how we revealed the baby’s gender to our family on Instagram yesterday, and one of my Insta-friends commented “oh my gosh, you’re wearing jeans!” so I thought… maybe I should blog them more often. Because right now, I do wear jeans a lot. I’m starting to get to that “I feel like a whale in flared dresses” phase, so I prefer more fitted silhouettes, including (surprisingly) jeans. But styling jeans in a retro way has always stumped me. How the heck do you do retro jean maternity wear? This hair helps a lot, though! While I grow my bangs out, this might be my…

Sequined Peter Pan collar, stripes, and a pleated skirt

Today, I am creating a baby registry for all the girly things! You guys, I almost wore this today, but decided that heels are just not my thing any more (oh, pregnancy) and also the waist of that dress is just too tight. It’s going to be hard not to do overkill now that I know this baby is a GIRL. A girl!!! I am definitely not going to be one of those cool moms who gender-neutralizes everything because… yeah, no, not my personality. Or preference. I like my girls to be girls and my boys to be boys (and that’s not a political statement there, I just think tutus…

Baby Number Two: Pink, or Blue?

Happy April 1st! But this actually isn’t a joke. We’re having a girl, and I totally knew it! I’m SO excited. I was hoping we could do the gender reveal idea I wanted to do, and while it would have been cute with a boy too, I just… I think it’s cuter with a girl. Haha! I would have cried when the Doctor got to the “what gender do you think THAT is?” part, except it was a man, and he was older, and I don’t like crying in front of strangers. So, you know. I cried inside, with happiness. I’m so excited to buy girly clothes and girly toys…

    Bohemian Farm Girl

I thrifted this 1970’s dress over the weekend, when my husband and I were on our overnight Valentine’s day trip to Port Townsend. Other than the fact that I love slightly over-the-top vintage, I primarily bought it for a hopeful future photo shoot with a few friends, as I want to stage a fake bride-and-bridesmaids woodland wedding shoot in the summer. But the other day, as I envisioned the shoot, I thought… why not pull it out and do my own photoshoot, right now? And then I wondered: why don’t people wear stuff like this all the time? Because, you guys. I felt pretty fabulous. I think I  need to…

Red Cape, Novelty Print Dress, and Life Lately

Well, my friends, as you can safely assume from the above picture, we’re having another baby! We are extremely happy about this. Mr. Owl and I both want at least five kids, if not more, and we’ve had baby fever for a few months now. I debated sharing with you all so early this weekend; I am not due until August 28th (this makes me six weeks pregnant), but as with most women and their second child — and especially with me, who carried large and showed early with Asa — I’m already popping out. I knew I wouldn’t be able to hide the belly for long, especially not if…
