Striped maternity dress and a flower in my hair

Confession: I may never change out of this maternity dress. It is that comfortable. In fact, I never did change out of my maternity jeans between pregnancies; I prefer them to any other pair of jeans I’ve ever had. Mostly because, you know, stretchy belly band means no tight waistband that digs into my belly fat or gappy waistband that shows off my underpants when I sit. Why can’t all clothes be made as comfortable as maternity clothes? My hair is inspired by my friend Sarah’s awesome braid, but my hair isn’t quite cooperative enough to do what hers did. I have short pieces of bangs that like to escape.…

Lord of the Rings shirt and Polka Dot skirt

Today, I’ve been reading through forums on a certain site about why people get annoyed with fashion bloggers — whether in general, or specific bloggers –, and it’s been… interesting. Reading negative feedback about bloggers as a whole or bloggers that I follow and like has ruffled my defensive feathers here and there, but it’s also made me really evaluate my own blogging. Now, I kind of hope to never be under the radar of that forum, because let’s face it: who wants to be criticized when they think they’re okay? Not to say I hate getting constructive criticism — as a person who posted fiction online for years, I’m…

Vintage novelty-print, polka-dots, and purple lipstick

This week, I discovered a new drugstore brand of makeup called Milani, whose matte lipsticks are kind of divine. I bought four in two days, even though I rarely wear lipstick, and… well… now I’m obsessed. So I’m challenging myself (and anyone who wants to jump in for however long) to wear a different color of lipstick every day this week (all seven days) including the four new colors I bought, plus three older favorites. You can see all of the lipsticks here along with the names and brands they are. I decided to start out with this purple lipstick because… well… why not? Jamie of Petite Panoply has a…

    Bohemian Farm Girl

I thrifted this 1970’s dress over the weekend, when my husband and I were on our overnight Valentine’s day trip to Port Townsend. Other than the fact that I love slightly over-the-top vintage, I primarily bought it for a hopeful future photo shoot with a few friends, as I want to stage a fake bride-and-bridesmaids woodland wedding shoot in the summer. But the other day, as I envisioned the shoot, I thought… why not pull it out and do my own photoshoot, right now? And then I wondered: why don’t people wear stuff like this all the time? Because, you guys. I felt pretty fabulous. I think I  need to…

    Valentine’s Day Lookbook: Bohemian

Today I began my journey in the No Shampoo world. Since it’s the first day I’ve needed to wash my hair since I last shampooed, I took the advice of many sites I read and washed with a cheap clarifying shampoo first, to rid my hair of silicone before I go into baking soda directly. I conditioned with ACV, though, and my hair smells normal; not like vinegar t all. In fact, it smells pretty darn good! I noticed right away that I have more volume than when I shampooed and conditioned with regular products, and the ends of my hair where I’ve got splits and generally need trimming were…
